The Amgen People’s Coast Classic benefit cycling tour has announced the official 2011 route, which will follow the official Oregon Coast Cycling Route.

The tour will start at The Maritime Museum in Astoria, at 8:00 am on Sunday, September 11, 2011, and will follow the Oregon Coast Route for six days, ending in Brookings on Friday, September 16, 2011. The 2011 ride also includes two-day and four-day options for those wishing to participate in just a portion of the ride.

Registration and more information are available at www.thepeoplescoastclassic.org.

For a fundraising commitment of $2,500 per person, or $10,000 for a team of five, riders will receive round-trip transportation to and from the ride to Portland; all hot breakfasts, five gourmet dinners, full mechanical support en route, support vehicle services, baggage transport, accommodation arrangements and more.  The 2011 Amgen People’s Coast Classic will be designed around an exciting stay in Newport, including private distillery and brewery tours at Rogue Ale, the opportunity to ride the route with John Maier, Brewmaster at Rogue Ale, a fish fry and party on the beach in Newport, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to “sleep with the sharks” at The Newport Aquarium.  Riders also have the opportunity to order a brand-new Co-Motion Bicycle (made in Eugene) at a preferred price and have it delivered to the starting line in Astoria, with a full professional bike fitting.

The event organizers are delighted to showcase the many pristine communities along the Oregon Coast, and encourage stops in Seaside, Cannon Beach, Pacific City, Tillamook, Lincoln City, Newport, Yachats, Florence, Reedsport, North Bend, Gold Beach, Brookings and more.  The Seaside stop on September 11 will be during the annual Hot Rod Car show and includes complimentary admission to the Seaside Aquarium, arranged by a local rider and lead fundraiser, Julie Jesse.

The Pacific Northwest Chapter of The Arthritis Foundation also uses this ride as an opportunity for the “Arthritis Road Show,” bringing premier physicians, subject experts and bone-density analysts into the communities of Astoria, Tillamook, Newport, Yachats, North Bend and Port Orford, which are all seriously underserved in these areas.

Sponsors include Amgen, The Oregon Coast Visitors Association, DuVine Adventures, Columbia Sportswear, Rogue Ales, Co-Motion Cycles, Rebound Orthopedics, PrimalWear, The Bicycle Paper, F.C. Bloxom Company Produce, Cairncross & Hemplemann Attorneys at Law, Bike Newport, Swift Industries, Dave’s Killer Bread, The Mill Casino and Pop Chips.
