DOD Happy Ride, lots of treats…maybe a few tricks (Lorane)
October 31, 2015 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit tripcheck.com, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. Routes listed on this website are for informational purposes and intended as a reference guide only.

How to Get to The Pile
Here are directions to “The Pile,” which is the place people park to ride at Whypass.
Go to the town of Lorane, which is about 15 miles west of Cottage Grove and about 20 miles SW of Eugene.
From Eugene. Most folks prefer to take Territorial Road to Lorane. Head south on Bailey Hill Road to Lorane Highway to Territorial Road to Lorane.
From I-5 North. Drive past Eugene and take the Creswell exit (about 10 miles south of Eugene). At the freeway exit traffic light, turn right (west) onto Oregon Ave. Continue west through downtown Creswell on Oregon Ave., the road name changes to Camas Swale Rd. as you leave Creswell city limits. Later the road name changes again to Hamm Rd. After 10 or 12 miles, Hamm Road T-bones into Territorial Road just a few miles north of Lorane. Turn left (south) onto Territorial Road and proceed to Lorane. (That’s only two turns once you exit I-5: right onto Oregon Ave. and left onto Territorial Road.)
From I-5 South. Either drive north up Territorial Road from Curtin or exit I-5 at Cottage Grove and take the Cottage Grove Lorane Road.
Once in Lorane: bear west on Siuslaw River Road.
Approximately 1.4 miles west of Lorane on Siuslaw River Road (just after mile post 43), you will see a BLM sign proclaiming “Carpenter Bypass Trail System”. Turn left here onto Carpenter Bypass Road. Continue 8/10ths of a mile to … the infamous Gravel Pile. This is a large gravel parking lot on the left side of the road that is sometimes partially covered by a pile of gravel used for road building. This is where people park to start the ride.

We’re going to serve up a Happy Ride at Whypass. It’s not spooky and the tricks are going to be at a minimum unless you can whip or backflip (Brock can’t on purpose, don’t ask). This is a great ride for all riders. Bring a bike, smile, some water and the awesome riding will take care of the rest!
Meet at the Gravel Pile at 10:51, rolling at 11:02. We’ll ride and play for a few hours before we meet up at the Pile for some suds, soda and snacks. Then…we can all go home and celebrate Halloween with your favorite trick or treat route.
