This is a great ride: two river canyons, high desert vistas, a ghost town and fossil beds are all places you will visit on this route. The bonus is little to no traffic on our nicely maintained paved roads.
Race Across Oregon’s new double century is on October 16th, 2010. The route is just under 200 miles, coming in at 176. The route starts and ends at the Imperial River Company in Maupin. It travels through various rural towns on low-traffic roads – from Maupin you’ll head up 216 toward Grass Valley, take some back roads to Moro, travel to Condon, near the beautiful windmill farms. From there take a short hike over to Fossil, then the twin climbs on either side of the John Day river take you to Antelope. From there up the switchbacks to Shaniko – then Bakeoven road back down to Maupin.
The price is $50 per person, and the ride is fully sagged. Riders can choose to participate as solo riders or two- or four-person teams. There will be an after party at the Imperial River Company – with dancing and a DJ. We hope it will also double as a Halloween costume party – though I anticipate the only costumes we might see are tired riders!
