Meet behind New Seasons at NE 33rd and Killingsworth. Routes: We ride 4 miles on the Columbia River Bike Path, cross over into Washington and back via the I-205 Bridge (2+ miles moderate—and noisy—climb going over, 2+ mile downhill screamer coming back). Once in Washington, we follow the Ride Around Clark County route out to Lacamas Lake. The shorter route (37 miles) heads back into Vancouver via Lakeshore Blvd.; the longer route (43) miles does a scenic loop around the lake. There is a major climb on the route of about 1.25 miles up the aptly named Payne Road, which is followed by a terrific series of downhill drops into the Lacamas Lake area.
Ride Rules: Several regroups on this ride, and no one gets dropped or lost. The only ride prerequisite is that you are able to ride 16-17 mph on the flats. Note: There is almost always a faster and slower group/long route and short route group, so this ride can be anything from a fairly rigorous training day to a moderate recovery ride. Ride Leader goes with the slower group. Usually.
