More than 30 years ago, the grassroots organization known as Bikecentennial helped some 4,000 dream chasers catch their visions as they bicycled across the U.S. on the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail. Since those seeds were planted, Bikecentennial has blossomed into Adventure Cycling Association, a 44,500-member organization that has greatly influenced the evolution and practice of bicycle travel.

As the acknowledged experts on self-contained bicycle travel, we’d like to share with you some of what we’ve learned by way of our Intro to Road Touring (IRT) course. Two days of classroom instruction provided by some of our most seasoned trip leaders will be followed by a four-day tour through the countryside in Oregon. This will give riders the opportunity to test ride and apply what they’ve learned during the classroom sessions.

Cyclists need to come to the IRT with some cycling skills and experience under your belt. But, after graduating from this course, they’ll be ready to hit the road on a loaded tour, whether it’s on a solo outing, a trip with friends, or as a member of a group of like-minded adventurers on an Adventure Cycling trip.
