La Pine Weekend

Picture yourself gliding through the Ponderosa pines of central Oregon this summer surrounded by that marvelous forest aroma. All this and more, including a coffee stop at Sunriver, can be yours. Just bring yourself, your bike, and your tent to a Portland Wheelmen car camping and riding weekend at La Pine State Park, August 27, 28 and 29. La Pine State Park is about 25 miles south of Bend, just off Highway 97.

On the schedule are a 25-mile ride in the late afternoon on Friday, August 27 ( it may end up being a dinner ride to the town of La Pine); a 52-mile loop out toward the Cascade Lakes Highway on Saturday, August 28, with a lunch stop at Twin Lakes Resort; and an out-and-back 30-mile coffee ride up to Sunriver on Sunday, August 29.

In between riding you have plenty of time to explore the scenic high points of central Oregon, including the volcanic wonders of the nearby Lava Lands National Monument.

Oregon State Parks fill up very quickly for summer weekends, so if you want to go reserve your space early.
