When it comes to dazzling combinations of show-stopping seascapes and world class bicycling, it’s hard to beat the Oregon coast. Riders will alternate between charming backcountry roads and picturesque pedaling along sandy beaches and match each pedal stroke with an indelible mental image of the remarkable scenery.
After gathering near the bicycle-friendly town of Eugene, the route heads north, then northwest, cycling past bucolic vineyards, orchards, and Christmas-tree farms. Cyclists quickly will be riding south down the craggy coastline, camping near the beach, and watching waves break near lighthouses as theyrelish the resonant barks of sea lions inside their caves. The group will visit the coastal towns of Lincoln City, Newport, Yachats, and Florence, each with its own unique local flavor. And in between, there are state parks, waysides, and scenic vistas too numerous to list. This ride will follow rivers for much of its course, so riders are treated to relatively gentle grades and lush, rich landscapes as they pedal toward camping destinations. Pack a tent, roll up the sleeping bag, grab a camera, and get ready for a jubilant celebration of wondrous, rugged western Oregon.
