Join us on this driving and biking adventure as we explore the wild beauty of the Oregon Coast and the 3 Capes Scenic Loop. On this 8-hour tour, we drive through the rolling hills and farmlands that encircle Portland then head off into the Oregon Coast Mountain Range. The drive continues along a beautiful cliff-lined river to the green pastures and dairies of the town of Tillamook, home to Tillamook Cheese, which is sold across the country.

On our way to the start of the ride, we’ll see Tillamook Bay, home to thousands of species of birds, shellfish and fish. Finally, we cruise up a steep road to the first Cape and the Cape Meares Lighthouse, the shortest lighthouse in Oregon. Built in 1890, the lighthouse sits on a peninsula 300 feet above the ocean and has dramatic 360-degree views. Here you’ll have an opportunity to bird watch and possibly even see grey whales in the distance.

We begin our bike ride on the low-traffic roads of the scenic loop through dense forest and past stunning views of the ocean. The tiny beach community of Oceanside is our first stop. Here we explore the long, sandy beach and hike through a tunnel in the mountain to a secluded beach.

The bike route continues directly above the beach and up a moderate hill to wonderful views of Netarts Bay — home to oyster beds, the town of Netarts and Cape Lookout. We cruise the bay, spotting shore birds, harbor seals and other wildlife. We’ll also see kayakers, fishing boats and clammers. There’s plenty of time to park at the water’s edge and snap photos. At the foot of the imposing Cape Lookout, we stop for a final beach exploration before loading up the bikes and retracing our route back to Portland.
