The streets of downtown Portland are about to get wild as lightning-fast racers storm the city for the annual Portland Twilight Criterium, presented by Subaru. The area’s fastest cyclists will compete for the region’s biggest purse in this extremely thrilling nighttime bike race. The course surrounds the North Park Blocks of downtown Portland, creating an island oasis of 360-degree race viewing.
There is plenty of fast-paced excitement for cyclists and spectators along the race’s highly technical course. You can get close enough to the action to feel the wind from racers rushing by as they complete each half-mile lap in just over one minute. The layout of the course allows for many excellent vantage points. Volunteers are needed, and volunteering is a cool way to see the race while being smack-dab in the middle of the hot racing action.
This free event features a Widmer Beer garden and a special handbuilt bike show. Builders will be on site to talk about their unique creations. Bring a picnic or visit the food carts and grab a seat on the grass for one of Portland’s most thrilling downtown events. The festivities and food carts open at 4:00 p.m., and races begin at 6:30 p.m.
