  1. Multnomah Falls Out-and-Back

    Type: Road Route

Multnomah Falls is Oregon’s most-visited natural site, and there are good reasons for that. One is that it’s located right next to a freeway. But for cyclists, the back-road approach to the falls is one of the most satisfying rides in the state.

To keep the mileage manageable, start at the state park on the Sandy River, then climb up into the gorge for views from the Women’s Forum and Crown Point. Then drop down a great twisty descent and pass through forests and a series of waterfalls, ending up at majestic Multnomah. The return trip involves plenty of work, but then you’ll descend for miles and miles back to the start.
