“Hands, hammers, files and fire make bicycles.”

“We can build it.”

These slogans get at the heart of the Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show’s simple mission: to showcase the talents and wares of Oregon’s independent frame builders, while drawing attention to the special process of custom and small-production bicycle-building.

The 2012 OHBS will take place in Portland this weekend. The exhibition will feature close to 40 frame builders, along with parts suppliers and bike accessory vendors. The two-day event will also include seminars and speakers on topics including bike fit, frame design, wheel-building and custom paint.

Oregon is known for having the largest number of independent frame builders in the country. Come see local hand-built bikes, from super-light racing frames to cargo and touring setups, and meet Oregon’s talented builders, suppliers and vendors. And while you’re walking from booth to booth, sip some suds from Hopworks Urban Brewery, the event’s official beer sponsor.

OHBS 2012 will take place Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vigor Industrial Building 10 on Swan Island (5555 N. Channel Ave.). Purchase tickets online for $8 or at the show door for $10. Children 12 and under enter free with a paying adult.
