Pedal Bike Tours: Forest Park and the Coast
Pedal Bike Tours in Portland recently added two more tours to its menu of options taking bicyclists to the Oregon coast and through Forest Park. And with summer still in full swing and the rain likely to stay away, now is the perfect time to explore the state by bike.
The new Oregon coast tour highlights the northern towns of Tillamook, Oceanside and Netarts and includes 10 miles of riding with plenty of time to explore the beach and coastal towns.
The tour leaves in the morning from the Pedal Bike Tours location and winds through Tillamook up to the Cape Meares Lighthouse, where the ride begins. Cyclists ride from the lighthouse to the small town of Oceanside and a stop for lunch. The ride continues up a moderate hill to the town of Netarts and then to the foot of Cape Lookout before returning back to Portland.
“We feel that the most beautiful areas of Oregon are best experienced by bicycle,” said Todd Roll, owner and biker-in-chief at Pedal Bike Tours. So far, the highlight of the trip for cyclists has been the town of Oceanside, Roll said.
The Oregon coast tour is $89 per person and includes a bike, helmet and guided tour.
The new Forest Park tour has already proven popular with cyclists and Pedal Bike Tours runs two tours a day. For the Forest Park ride, cyclists start at the shop and receive transportation to the start of the Leif Erikson trail in the park. Pedal Bike Tours provides a map, mountain bike and helmet and cyclists navigate the 11 miles through the park and back to the shop on their own.
Roll said Forest Park is often overlooked by cyclists in a state with so many fantastic cycling options, and this tour highlights a Portland treasure. The tour is $49 per person.
Pedal Bike Tours is located at 133 SW 2nd Ave. in Portland. For more information, visit the Pedal Bike Tours website at http://pedalbiketours.com or call the shop at 503-243-2453.
