Alder Glen Falls
In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit tripcheck.com, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. Routes listed on this website are for informational purposes and intended as a reference guide only.
This unofficially named and relatively minor waterfall appears to have a case of Multiple Personality Disorder. In the winter, the falls veil out over a broad ledge, spilling about 30 feet almost directly into the Nestucca River. In the summer the creek runs much lower and the falls can become almost totally obstructed by the surrounding growth. When the Nestucca River is running low enough, fording the river to the falls is a cakewalk (so long as you don’t mind getting wet), but in the winter months, the falls are easily visible from within the Alder Glen Campground and crossing the river isn’t necessary.
The falls are located off the Nestucca Byway, southeast of Tillamook. Turn off US 101 14 miles south of Tillamook at the Blaine-Nestucca River Road. Alder Glen Campground is 17 miles east of US 101. The falls can be best seen from a campsite about 2/3 of the way through the loop road.
