Cloud Cap Inn
In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit tripcheck.com, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. The Cloud Cap Inn (or Chalet) is a special building located in a very beautiful place, at the 6,000 foot level of the north side of Mt. Hood. It is also an old and historic place, built in 1889, that represents a time in the settlement of the area when Anglo American settlers began recreating in the mountains and turning to nature for relaxation and inspiration.
This site provides an interesting excursion into the alpine countryside while also providing a destination and interesting attraction. Members of The Crag Rats, a climbing club from Hood River that has the permit to occupy the Inn, will allow the public to come inside and see the rustic building. It is representational of traditional alpine architecture and for the most part is preserved as an historic lodge, looking much like it did over 100 years ago.
