In 1966, David and Diana Lett named their fledgling venture for the red-tailed hawks who make their home (EYE-ree) in the fir tree at the top of the original vineyard. The Eyrie Vineyards now comprises 49 acres of vines, planted at four different altitudes in the Red Hills of Dundee, about 30 miles southwest of Portland. The winery and tasting room is in nearby McMinnville. Annual production is about 8,000 cases, and all Eyrie wines are estate-grown. Recently, Jason Lett has taken over from his parents, carrying The Eyrie Vineyards into the second generation.
At The Eyrie Vineyards, we have always followed a simple precept: interfere as little as possible with processes of nature.
