Stay Safe

In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. Routes listed on this website are for informational purposes and intended as a reference guide only.

Wood, the natural element in a dynamic stream, provides shelter and sources of food for fish. Wood also protects stream banks and channels by reducing the speed of the water.
Present and future generations benefit from the experience of wild trout populations in their natural setting. The Deschutes National Forest, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Trout Unlimited encourage the retention of large wood in the streams of the Metolius River Basin.

The health of the Metolius Basin can be measured by its compliment of diverse self-sustaining wild trout. These are nature’s indicators of good management. The tug on a well presented barbless fly means populations and harvest are in balance. It indicates that the food supply, resting and feeding areas, spawning beds, and water quality are all in harmony.
