Rhododendron Island Forest Campground
In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit tripcheck.com, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. Rhododendron Island Forest Campground is located approximately 36 miles from Oakridge at an elevation of 5,400 feet. This campground has a few sites with no toilets and no potable water.
This small island near the west shore of the lake is covered with rhododendrons as its name indicates. They bloom in early to midsummer and give the island exceptional charm. Please be gentle to the environment and leave no trace of your stay. It is an easy paddle from Shadow Bay, but the island can also be reached from either Islet or North Waldo Campgrounds with a little more effort. Morning and evening offers the quietist water for canoeing. The mosquito population is high from June to mid-August and can be quite bothersome, so be prepared!
