Wallowa Lake Tramway
In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit tripcheck.com, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. Routes listed on this website are for informational purposes and intended as a reference guide only.
Experience the Alps of Oregon first-hand in the steepest vertical gondola ride in North America. Open May – September. Wallowa Lake Tramway also operates during the winter months under special occasions!
In just under 15 minutes you are taken on a 3700-foot ascent to the summit of Mt. Howard where you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the Wallowa Valley including the communities of Joseph, Enterprise, Lostine and Wallowa.
Editor's Note: Take your mountain bike up the gondola for breathtaking views and one heck of a downhill ride down pine-covered hills, glacial moraines, and along gravel and paved roads (as weather permits). Also, Grab some grub and a pint of Terminal Gravity at the Summit Grill, “the Northwest’s highest restaurant.” The alpine patio offers beautiful views overlooking Wallowa Lake and the peaks of the Wallowa Mountains.
