Stay Safe

In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. Routes listed on this website are for informational purposes and intended as a reference guide only.

This Stevens Canyon ride starts and ends at Village Green City Park in Sisters. Here you will find parking, restrooms, water and a shaded picnic area.

The route is 20% paved road and 80% gravel. Bikes with 30cm width tires or larger are recommended. Most of the ride is easy along National Forest Service roads. There is one stretch of rough road between miles 7 and 9. Slow down and enjoy the forest. The total elevation gain is 834 ft.

The ride starts with a .5 mi. pedal on pavement out of Sisters then north on gravel through a Ponderosa Pine forest before meeting up with Indian Ford Rd . Along the the way be sure to stop at Indian Ford creek (mile 4.5) and listen for the many birds in the creekside willows.

Turn right (4.8 mi) on Indian Ford Road. Stevens Canyon Road will be on your left in one half mile (5.5mi). Stevens Canyon Rd. is the start of your counterclockwise ride down through the canyon.

Look for mule deer, red tailed hawks and possibly elk as you pass the large meadows to your south.

Just after 12 miles you take the left fork in the road and head westerly for the climb out of the canyon. Once on top (mile 17) you will find a smooth fast descent to Indian Ford Road and your ride back to Sisters. The ride into Sisters (4.5 mile) offers sweeping views of The Three Sisters, Broken Top, Black Butte as well as Whychus Creek meadow.

The ride ends at the Village Green Park. From the park it is a short walk to the many shops, eateries and adventures the City of Sisters offers.
