This route is one of the four routes that are part of the Metolius Loops Scenic Bikeway. It features the chance to see a rare sight: the full-blown Metolius River emerging from a hillside as if by magic at the Head of the Metolius visitors area.

The River Loop begins and ends at the Camp Sherman Store. Head east from the store to connect to Forest Road 14, taking a right and following it south. At about 2 miles take the turnoff into the Head of the Metolius parking area. After checking out the river’s visual genesis, turn right back onto Road 14 and follow it to the junction with Camp Sherman Road/Road 1419 at about 3.75. Turn right and follow 1419; it will turn right at an intersection just before 6 miles but remain the same road. The total loop (not counting the turnoff for the Head of the Metolius) is just over 6.5 miles, and it has an elevation change of just less than 200 feet from lowest to highest point.
