Stay Safe

In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit tripcheck.com, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. A great way to see some sleepy towns in varied terrain, this ride is lovely in autumn (though best to avoid Oktoberfest weekend, when motor vehicle traffic is heavy), and can be cut shorter by taking any of the farmland roads south back to your starting point in Mt. Angel.

Traffic: Light.

Comments

  1. WATCH OUT!!! The first part of this route along Mt. Angel Scott Mills Rd. and Scott Mills Maple Grove Rd. have NO shoulder and are curvy. Often the shoulder is covered in heavy gravel or drops 3′ into a ditch. You are putting yourself at great risk and drivers who meet oncoming traffic as well. My friends and I ditched this route at Scott Mills and rode down S. Butte Creek Rd. which dead ends at 7 miles in (virtually no traffic) follows a nearby creek. Then we asked locals and returned to Mt. Angel via Drake, Wagon and Markham… a much, much safer, calmer ride rolling through farmland.
