Oregon – Washington Loop

Region:
Nearby Cities:
Astoria

This route has amazing views of waterways, farmland and even passes through the sleepy Puget Island in the middle of the Columbia River. Astoria, Oregon is a truly unique city with amazing views, bridges, waterfront and lore, and is a great place to start or end your trip. The ride also has great camping spots approximately every 50 miles, which is a reasonable distance for many touring cyclist. If you are traveling light and fast, you could easily go 100 miles and still have camping options.

This is a beautiful ride around the coastal mountain ranges surrounding the mouth of the Columbia River. This route is not short by any means, but there are very little climbs since a majority of the highways hug rivers as they pass through the mountains. The highest pass is approximately 600′, which is in the beginning of the ride between Astoria and Westport, Oregon where you jump on the ferry.

Highway 4 and Highway 6 both have mellow traffic and 4′ bike lanes most of the way.

**Note: The Astoria bridge is a bit scary due to the 24″ bike lane and lots of traffic across the 4.3 mile span.

Motorized Vehicle Traffic: Moderate to heavy

Seasons: All
