Highlights: Lightly traveled country roads, wide-open high desert scenery and a long descent along the Crooked River.
Route: From Prineville, head west on Hwy. 126 as it climbs steeply out of the valley, and look for Millican Road on the south side of the highway. Follow Millican Road as it gradually climbs behind Powell Butte toward Reservoir Road. Turn left/east on Reservoir Road as it continues to climb and then descend toward Hwy. 27. At 27, head north/left and continue descending toward Prineville Reservoir and then along the Crooked River as it drops through a beautiful canyon. More than 20 miles of descent bring you back to Prineville.
Note: Use caution riding on and crossing Hwy. 126. Expect some truck traffic on Millican Road and weekend boaters on Reservoir Road making their way up to Prineville Reservoir from Bend. Watch out for falling rock on the road below Prineville Dam.
Motorized Vehicle Traffic: Heavy on the highways; moderate otherwise
Seasons: Spring – fall
