Stay Safe

In Oregon, a bicycle is legally considered a vehicle, and the same Oregon road laws apply. Please “be seen” and practice safe riding. Vehicle traffic, farm equipment and narrow shoulders exist on many Oregon roads, and you may find that construction projects, traffic or other events may cause road conditions or signage to differ from the map results, ride descriptions and directions. For travel options plus weather and road conditions, visit, call 511 (in Oregon only), 800.977.6368 or 503.588.2941. Routes listed on this website are for informational purposes and intended as a reference guide only.

This ride can be ridden equally well from Hood River to The Dalles. Turn left from Salmon Cyclery on 2nd Street in The Dalles. Turn right on Union Street. Cross the Highway 84 underpass, bear left to W. 1st Street. Turn right at River Road. After crossing Highway 84 again, turn right onto Historic Columbia River Highway/Highway 30. You’ll climb steeply to Rowena Point and then descend toward Mosier. Bear right on Rock Creek Road on the far side of Mosier. As you begin climbing, turn right onto Old Columbia River Drive at the east entrance to the Mark O. Hatfield Trailhead State Park. The “Twin Tunnel” Road is closed to vehicle traffic, but shared with foot traffic. At the end of the park, you’ll make a twisting descent down into Hood River. Turn around to reverse your trip back to The Dalles. Return to Salmon Cyclery. Motorized Vehicle Traffic: None on park trail; otherwise light to moderate Seasons: All
