Trailhead: Head 28 miles west of Portland on Highway 26 to Fisher Road and signs for Buxton. In Buxton, turn right onto Bacona Rd. and proceed to the Buxton Trailhead on the right.

Highlights: A fun, easier rail trail. The abandoned railroad grade meanders through fields and forests with views of the surrounding hills and creeks. Recently opened Stub Stewart State Park has several miles of trails and old logging roads open to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding, easily accessed from many points along the Banks-Vernonia Trail.
