  • Attributes:
    Non-technical, Paved Road/Trail
  • Region:
    Mt. Hood / The Gorge

Trailhead: From Hood River, head east on State St., cross Hwy. 35 and drive up the old Columbia River Hwy. to the parking area, or ride your bike from town and avoid the $3 parking fee (but note that this is a pretty strenuous climb on a bike – way more than the trail itself has).

Highlights: Beautiful views of the Columbia River Gorge, diverse ecology as you pass through climate zones and interesting signage of the old highway’s history. Plus some of the best segments are closed to motor vehicles.

Note: This restored portion of the Historic Columbia River Highway is popular with walkers, joggers and bikers so control your speed. Road riders use this route to access additional paved roads out of Mosier. If parking at the trailhead, expect to pay a $3 fee at the self-service kiosk.

Seasons: Spring/summer/fall
