Trailhead: You can ride this trail starting from either end. Either head west off NW 23rd Ave. onto Thurman and park at the gate, or go midway up Germantown Road from the bottom (near the St. Johns Bridge) at a large pullout on the east side of the road.

Highlights: This is a great route for bikers of all abilities. The occasionally rocky dirt road winds through lush forest the entire way, with a few open views of Portland and the Willamette River far below.

  1. This is a great “close in” ride. If I’m in a hurry or just have an hour to ride in the am, I will even throw my bike on the MAX and start from Washington Park.

  2. Good for exercise…very mild and relaxing.
